More On Socialism

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

I am not the only one talking about "socialism" these days ... or at least what most Republicans call socialism. Check out Oh, yeah? Well, your mama's a socialist! Here is a taste ...

Thus, taking tax rates on the wealthiest Americans back to the level of the Clinton years -- the biggest boom in American history -- is "socialism." Nevermind that rates on the rich were more than twice as high under that infamous socialist Dwight Eisenhower (McCarthy labeled him a communist). Fixing a health-care system that is leaving behind millions of Americans -- socialism. Worrying about the greatest income gap since the 1920s or how average Americans have seen their income go down under George W. Bush -- socialism. Investing in public works -- socialism, socialism, socialism!

This wing of the GOP, which is about all that's left of a once-diverse party, argued that Social Security and Medicare were socialism. Its members still believe this, although most keep their opinions under wraps, and long to kill those programs. Yet in power, they don't hesitate to use the heavy hand of government to redistribute income to the wealthy. Facing a reality-based crisis, the Bush administration partially nationalizes the financial system -- and pumps $750 billion of "your money," largely unsupervised, to the rich bankers who helped cause the meltdown. But that's not "socialism," see...see?

Plus, I love the name of the blog ... Rogue Columnist. :)

The Cantankerous Christian

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I have to tell you about this blog. The Cantankerous Christian is a blog I came across thru Christian Bloggers and the name alone made me want to go read it. The blog author is Corey and he is from Kentucky too ... though he is on the other side of the state. Corey has a gift for writing. Seriously. He can pull you into a post within the first few lines. His love for God is so obvious. And, honestly, I am blessed by his blog. He reminds me with every post of God's unfailing love and the transformation that is supposed to be me.

His blog convicts me regularly and through that conviction I find spiritual enlightenment and a desire to love God and His people more.

Here are a couple of his posts. I strongly suggest you read more than just the few I list.

I do warn you that Corey loves Christmas (how can you be cantankerous and love Christmas?) and loves Christmas music. His player automatically plays some tunes for your listening enjoyment. If you do not want to get into the Christmas spirit, I advise scrolling to the bottom of the page and turning the player off. :)

Welcome Girlfriend!

I have to send a shout out to my gurlie. She has created her first ever blog, OleFashGirl, and is new to the world of blogging. We don't always agree politically, but she is great and I love her. We are church family even though her mean ole hubby done moved her away from us! I will forgive him though ... well eventually. ;)

Go say hi and tell her that I sent ya!

Calling All Atheists

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Ray Comfort, from Way Of The Master, has a contest going on for atheists over at his blog. All you have to do is write an article about why you do not believe in God in 200 words or less. The winner gets $100 and their article published. Runners up will also be published with a rebuttal by Ray himself.

It is going to be interesting.

Couldn't Agree More

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Every morning I get up and read the feeds from HighCallingBlogs.com. This morning one caught my eye and I went over to the site to check it out. All I can say is I agree with this author and I wish more Christians would take a good, long look at how they are actually processing statements made by politicians.

Of course I'm not surprised by the dichotomy between the voice(s) of American politics and the voice of the church.  What's scary about today's rhetoric is that people consistently (especially in evangelical Christianity) confuse patriotism with faithfulness such that statements like Palin's above actually take on (false) theological and faith-related meaning.  To advocate the destruction of those who seek to do us harm is seen by many (at least in circules I run in) as an almost paramount Christian idea while the New Testament witness tells us to turn the other cheek, tells us not to repay evil with evil.

I am kind of bored today and don't really have anything that I want to blog about. So instead of just not blogging ... I decided that I would highlight what I have been reading instead. That way you can read all the really cool stuff I have been reading and that will give us the warm fuzzies and stuff. Really. It will. Just try it.

Trippin' Around

Well, I am not much in the mood for blogging today and goodness knows I am a bad blog reader. I use Bloglines mostly and then rarely comment, even when I know the post is good. I tend to just nod my head, do a "yep" and move along. But, I decided today that since I don't feel like blogging I would instead highlight some of the blog posts today that I have enjoyed. They have either made me think, laugh, impressed me, or touched me in some way. I hope you enjoy.

Update: Oh, I had to add this ...

Update II: Cindy posted the true story of Easter. Go ahead and read it. It's better late than never! Well, not the story, but the reading/linking of it. :)

Independent Christian Voice

I rarely ever take up blog space tooting the horns of other bloggers, but this time I just have to. I read a lot of blogs, but rarely do I read a blog everyday, a couple of times a day. I can count the ones on one hand that I do. Independent Christian Voice is one. The political commentary is awesome and when you mix it with their faith, well you have a powerful combination. They are definitely a must read. And, if you don't believe me ... check out this particular post. It is just one post of many that will make you think and wish you were a much better writer. :)

Now ... go!
