How would you explain the Gospel to a person who was literally on their deathbed? What would you say?
That was an incredibly powerful clip. It really puts a hole in postmodern arguments as well. People don't want to hear wishy washy theology when they are faced with death.
When my grandmother learned that cancer was eventually going to take her life and the next step was hospice she wanted to visit with me.
She wanted assurance in the power of God for salvation, that Jesus' death was sufficient in atoning for her sin, and since she trusted in Him that she'll have eternal life.
She's with Jesus now, and I think she'd probably have thrown something at me if I said to her what that "chaplain" said to the gentleman above.
All the silly arguements that a person puts up their entire lives come home when faced with eternity.
How badly do you want to cling to them when faced with your own mortality?
