Mike Huckabee was the best candidate this nation had for president with the most consistent Christian platform. But, Conservatives didn't like him because he believed in helping the poor and fighting Wall Street greed and K Street corruption.
And they probably didn't like it that he said ...
"I do not spell G.O.D. ... G.O.P. Our party may be important, but our principles are even more important than anybody's political party." (source)
And so McCain got the nomination.

Angel, it isn't about a christian platform. It is about Republicans getting votes. They didn't think a christian who actually walked the walk could become president.
I honestly don't think it is about the platform either, really. It is just the hypocrisy and the absurdity of it all.
I am a Independent and have been for years. I find that the two party system we have now is nothing more than a mockery and the marriage of Conservative Christians with the Republican party is disturbing. Neither party is standing on the Word. They just stand on the parts that fit their agenda.
Hi Justin - nice to see another independent!
Angel - I just had a wave of realization wash over me a minute ago. I don't believe most Americans really want a solid man or woman of faith in the Oval Office - they want one who will conform to the social norms and expectations, make the right sounds with their mouths, but someone who would try to urge Americans to live in accordance with what God wants of us? Someone who would attempt to recast American society? Listen to the howls outside - who is this person trying to tell us how to live, who to help, what to think, who to believe in?!?!?!
I pray that I'm wrong...
No ... sadly, you are probably right, Rick.
Heya RickD335! There aren't many of us out there these days. I also think yuo may be onto something there.
