Happy New Year!

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

I just wanted to take a break and wish you all a very Happy New Year. I hope that it is blessed with love, joy, peace, and prosperity for you all. 2005 is just hours away and I hope you make it safely to our New Year.

I have emails to answer, but I won't until tomorrow. Tonight, LM, the kids, and I are celebrating at home. That is the way I like it too. I have never been one for going out for this holiday. The kids are choosing tonight's dinner and it is interesting. We are having BBQ ribs, pizza rolls, chips w/homemade onion dip, oreos, and soda. :P

Tomorrow ... well, that is a different story. I chose the meal and we will be having country ham, rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans, blackeyed peas w/onions, broccoli and cheese casserole, and chocolate cake w/chocolate icing. We have to start the New Year right and that includes a delicious meal, prayer, and the companionship of family.

Be safe and don't drink too much!

A Good Christmas

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

Well, it is the day after Christmas and D and J are sledding with LM. H is at her daddy's house and will be home this afternoon. My mother was supposed to show up last night, but now is supposed to come today. I am hoping so too, as the kids really want to see her.

The girls enjoyed their Christmas a lot. We had a wonderful dinner. It turned out absolutely perfect. Everyone was full and happy. Christmas music played all day and we all sat down to watch Shrek2, Undercover Brother, and Bruce Almighty (a movie I received last year as a gift).

I realized that most of my bad mood leading up to Christmas was me missing my Daddy. Don't get me wrong, the news is definitely something that can set me off. But, the real deal was that I miss him. Every Christmas we would drive down to see him. He loved to cook dinner for us and the holidays are hard without him now.

We also watched Frequency yesterday. That is what made me realize that I was missing him so much. I got to crying so hard that LM had to pull me to him. It has been so hard without Daddy here. I miss him so much. I never thought that I could miss anyone as much as I miss him.

My sister Cari called too. It is hitting her hard as well. I haven't heard from her since earlier in the year. It was really nice hearing from her, though. I miss her and my nephew. I haven't seen him since Daddy died. That totally sucks.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa brought you what you were wanting this year. He definitely did a good job in our house ... even if he cannot bring my Daddy back. Hopefully one day it won't hurt so bad that he isn't here anymore.

Feeling Jolly

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Turning up the Christmas songs, shutting off the TV and the radio, and blogging some of the stuff that was ticking me off was the ticket. The Christmas spirit has hit! After I blogged, I made some delicious cookies! Now I am fixing chicken and dressing, broccoli and cheese casserole, chess pies, and black-eyed peas with onions. I am singing Christmas carols, cooking up a storm, and feeling great.

If I don't get to tell you tomorrow ... Merry Christmas everyone!

Friday Jams #14

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Son of God. For many it is nothing more than a holiday in which people spend a lot of money, decorate trees, and give and receive gifts. For others, it is just another holiday that someone else enjoys and nothing important to them. Regardless of where you fall in that, I hope the Lord blesses you in ways you have never dreamed of.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Enjoy! :P

What To Do? What To Do?

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Get this! In my last post I said something about how we have imported more food this year than exported ... and how farmers are paid not to farm. Well, what does Bush decide to do about that? The common sense thing would be to pay our farmers to farm, in my opinion. Does that sound about right? I think so.

Is that what Bush does? Well, of course not.

Bush decided to cut $600 million from global food aid programs aimed at helping millions of people climb out of poverty. What we export to developing worlds in emergency food prevents the starvation of millions and the long-term agricultural developments help people feed themselves. These things are vital to these countries and help control famine.

Yeah. That's right. Let's take away the humanitarian aid we send to these countries instead of having our farmers actually working, which they would prefer. But, no. Our administration would rather buy their farms so they can sit and rot ... buy our food from overseas ... and then cut our exports so we can balance a budget so thoroughly messed up by Bush at this point that our grandchildren will suffer for it.

Where or where does the common sense hide in our administration? Does any of them have a lick of sense? You call him the common man's president ... I say that is an insult to the common man. The common man has more common sense in his little pinkie than Bush or his administration has collectively.

Some Quick Griping

I was listening to the radio and they were doing those holiday messages to the troops. That is real cool. One ticked me off, though. One was from a man who wanted to thank the troops in Iraq for protecting our freedom. I was like ... "Dude. Don't be a dipwad. Iraq isn't threatening our freedom and never did. Our troops are there because they were sent there. Soldiers go where they are told and do what they are told. They are to be commended for the sacrifices they make, but don't play dumb and buy into the Republican spin. The biggest threat to our freedom is the people running this country."

Yeah, I talk to the radio. The TV too.

Before that, they were talking about how the Pell Grant has been chopped. That's a shame. It is even more of a shame that our administration feels it is more important to issue work vouchers to foreigners, put our country in more debt than we know what to do with, and pay for a war off the futures of our children. Yeah ... that is the way to run a country! Make war and pay for it off the backs of the poor and the futures of our children. Republican values at their finest.

I was listening to Paul Harvey talk about how this year is the first year that we have imported more food than we have exported. We pay farmers not to grow food and then we buy the food they could be growing from other countries. Smart, isn't it? Makes a load of sense, doesn't it?

For all of you interested, Sir Jasper is still willing to run this country if you will go ahead and impeach Bush. I mean, really, he has done so much to be impeached for ... a lot more than playing hide the cigar with an intern. And, Sir Jasper promises to actually be conservative when it comes to our tax dollars ... something our main "conservative" doesn't seem to understand unless it means cutting education, welfare, pell grants, and things our country needs. For everything else ... it is spend, spend, spend.

Sir Jasper says you don't have to pay him in money either. Some nice kitty litter, a little food, and a few jingle balls will do just fine. :)

My Cat Is Weird

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Have you ever seen a cat get as close to a radio as it can so that it can listen to the music? Have you ever seen a cat so engrosed in said music that nothing you say to it will make it move it's head even a little to look your way? If not ... come on over sometime.

Sir Jasper has decided that not only does he love listening to the radio, but that country music is his favorite genre. He will lay for hours, even in the most uncomfortable positions, as close to the radio as he can and listen ... and listen ... and listen. Nothing you can say or do will make him move or pay you any attention. Nothing. Believe me, I have tried. :P

My cat is so strange.

Aliens Everywhere! Part II

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Vicund With Alien Baby JarvisOh, if you are a Sims2 player ... play the Curious family. I have been playing them for a few days and I love them. They are also good for having alien babies! Pascal has a baby boy named Harold. Vicund now has twin alien boys named Clarence and Daniel ... and recently had another baby boy that I named Jarvis. I am hoping to get Lazlo abducted and pregnant soon too. Someone needs to have an alien baby girl!

Pascal's son and Vicund's twins are now children. Jarvis is still in his baby stage, but will be a toddler soon. I am going to grow the kids up and move them out so that I can keep having the Curious brothers have alien babies. Hopefully, before too long, I will have a slew of aliens for Strangetown! :)

Recommendation

| 2 Comments | 1 TrackBack

Sojourners MagazineIf you have never read Sojourners Magazine, I want to take the time to recommend it now. This months issue focusses on war and peacemaking. I have read about half of it now and it is really good. But, it always is.

Here is a brief description of what Sojourners is:

"Rooted in the solid ground of prophetic biblical tradition, Sojourners is a progressive Christian voice that preaches not political correctness but compassion, community, and commitment. We refuse to separate personal faith from social justice, prayer from peacemaking, contemplation from action, or spirituality from politics.

Sojourners includes evangelicals, Catholics, Pentecostals and Protestants; liberals and conservatives; blacks, whites, Latinos, and Asians; women and men; young and old. We are Christians who want to follow Jesus, but who also sojourn with others in different faith traditions and all those who are on a spiritual journey. We reach into traditional churches but also out to those who can't fit into them. Together we seek to discover the intersection of faith, politics, and culture. We invite you to join, to connect, and to act. Welcome to the community."

Now, I don't always agree with everything they publish, but I will say that about 80% hits home for me. For me, this is one of the few Christian publications that covers politics and culture that reflects my feelings on such matters from the perspective I have as a Christian.

Just Wondering

Have you ever put cornbread in the oven and then forgot about it because you were too busy daydreaming? Did the fire alarm going off finally make you remember that you were actually cooking something?

Yeah ... me neither.

Letter To Mrs. Montgomery

| 3 Comments | 2 TrackBacks

Dear Lisa Montgomery,

When it first entered your mind to kill a pregnant woman so that you could steal her unborn baby from her womb ... that should have told you that you were unfit to be a parent. When your husband believed that you gave birth to the baby and picked you up at a fast food restaurant ... that just proved that you are married to the most ignorant man on earth. You are a sick person. Your husband is a stupid moron. You should both go to prison ... even if he is only charged with stupidity in the first degree.

You seriously make me reconsider my opposition to the dealth penalty.

Sincerely,
Angel

Santa Doesn't Like Bush

Every year, most communities have some type of Christmas drive to help needy families with toys, clothing, and food for the holidays. Our community is no different. I was able to get some of the numbers for the last twelve years and I found them quite interesting.

Under the Bush Administration ...

2004: 670 children
2003: 530 children
2002: 486 children
2001: 207 children

Under the Clinton Administration ...

2000: 147 children
1999: 152 children
1998: 149 children
1997: 133 children
1996: 142 children
1995: 128 children
1994: 131 children
1993: 124 children

These numbers do not include families that applied but did not meet the requirements for assistance. The requirements include proof of income, attending either the money management class (2 hours at once) or the parenting classes (4 classes, one hour each), and that the family live within the county. If more than one person asks assistance for a child, only one family will receive assistance for that child. Grandparents can only ask assistance if they have legal custody of the child they have requested assistance for.

I would also like to note that during the Clinton Administration, Santa's Helpers were able to provide at least eight toys per child and about two to three outfits as well. During the Bush Administration, that number has dwindled greatly. Most families only receive 3 toys per child. Some, those with the greatest need, receive three toys per child and an outfit.

All families that received assistance live below the poverty level. Most live way below it. An average of eighty-four percent are considered "working poor" ... meaning that one of more adults have a job, yet they still fall below the poverty level. Though, I will add that that number is the average for all twelve years.

Friday Jams #13

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Well, I don't feel like doing a Friday Jams this week, as I am sick and have the worst cold I have ever had in my life. I think it is the flu actually. So, instead of not posting one at all, I am reposting the first one I did.

These songs are from one of my favorite playlists. I listen to it while I am relaxing, blogging, cleaning ... it really doesn't matter. These are some of my favorite love/angst songs. You will find a variety of sounds and artistic flavor. Let me know how you like them. Enjoy! :P

Monkey Bush

| 11 Comments | No TrackBacks

This is just too much ...

Bush Monkeys
A portrait of President George W. Bush (news - web sites) using monkeys to form his image has led to the closure of a New York art exhibition over the weekend and anguished protests over freedom of expression.

"Bush Monkeys," a small acrylic on canvas by Chris Savido, created the stir at the Chelsea Market public space, leading the market's managers to close down the 60-piece show that was scheduled to stay up for the next month.

...

"We had tons of people, like more than 2,000 people show up for the opening on Thursday night," said show organizer Bucky Turco. "Then this manager saw the piece and the guy just kind of flipped out. 'The show is over. Get this work down or I'm gonna arrest you,' he said. It's been kind of wild."

...

"This is much deeper than art. This is fundamental American rights, freedom of speech," Savido said. "To see that something like this can happen, especially in a place like New York City is mind boggling and scary."

A Good Post

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Boyd has a post with a very good explanation of what an Evangelical Christian is as well as some personal thoughts on his father. Go check it out. It is really good.

I disagree that Fundamentalist is an outdated term, but I am sure that doesn't surprise Boyd. :) Honestly, I just think that most people don't really know what a Fundamentalist Christian is or what they believe in. For those that dont know, Fundamentalists believe that there is a moral crisis in the modern world and they are afraid that modernity will erode or eradicate their faith, morality, and religious values. And, not just for them ... but for society as a whole. A considerable percentage of the Religious Right is Fundamentalist.

Boyd considers his father a Traditionalist. I would agree from what he wrote too. For those that are interested, Traditionalists appreciate dignity, familiarity and beauty both in public worship and in their private life of prayer. They are comfortable with the venerable language of Scripture, Creeds, and the traditional hymns of the church. They regard those who seek change for change's sake as being too willing to toss aside the tried and the true for something less substantial. Given their respect for what Christianity has received from those who have gone before, their style of faith can provide a sense of continuity and stability in troubled times. Traditional Christians generally accept the church's teaching about the coming kingdom of God, but this is not a subject frequently talked about or discussed.

Anywho ... don't forget to check out Boyd's post.

I Have Glasses

| 5 Comments | No TrackBacks

Well, I got my glasses Friday. That is cool, as they said it would be 7-10 days and it wasn't. I haven't said anything about them as I wanted to get used to them. I still haven't. I think they got my perscription wrong.

When I wear them ... I feel like I am cross-eyed. Is that normal? Or could it be because only one side is actually a prescription and the other is just a clear lense? Or does wearing glasses take some getting used to? I don't know, but I know that I feel like I strain more now than I did before ... even though I am seeing clearly through them.

I only have to wear them when I am at the computer, reading, sewing (stuff up close). LM said I should wear them all the time to get used to them, but that just messes me up. Since I have no problem seeing anything far away, it gets all weird if I have them on while I am moving around. My depth perception goes seriously bonkers.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

You Should Be Watching

Voting Irregularities in Ohio on C-SPAN.

"Members and witnesses testified before an ad hoc committee on voting irregularities in the Ohio 2004 elections. Among the topics they addressed were civil rights issues, variations in election procedures between local areas and states, proposed election reforms, and various events and decisions by officials prior to , during, and following the election. Several members of the audience in the hearing room were also allowed to give comments."

It has been quite interesting thus far. I am glad to see that these hearings are going on and I agree with some of the speakers that America needs to be the model of democracy, not hypocrisy. Our administration is far more interested in the elections of Afghanistan and Iraq ... than it is here in our country. Our elections do not in any way fit within the model that democracy promises us or that our administration declares will be the model overseas.

Friday Jams #12

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Okay, the selection this week was picked by Little Man, though they are from one of my favorite playlists. He has been teasing me ever since he met me about these songs and how often I listen to them. I don't know why, as he listens to the same songs and likes them ... I think it just has something to do with me loving them. Though, if one went on stereotypes ... they would think it would be perfectly normal for me to like these songs and a bit bizarre that he does. He says that for those who know us, it is the other way around though.

LM also says that while you listen to them you must imagine me singing them, loudly, while I roam around the house. That is his favorite part, doncha know? LOL

So listen and enjoy! :P

Remember, you can find my Radio Blog on my right side panel. Listen while you can. Friday will bring a whole new selection for your listening pleasure.

Kaboom!

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

How do you break a king size waterbed? I mean, break it. Make it come crashing down? Break it to the point where you not only have to rebuild it, but have to add extra support as well?

Do you have a clue?

You do it having a WWF bout of wills on it. That is how. Little Man vs. Rogue in a battle of life and death ... and popping toes. Popping toes. Did you read that? Popping toes. Which means that I whooped his butt! I hate having my toes popped!

And, you thought it was doing something nasty. Dirty minded aren't you? Heh. :P

The New Dirty Word

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Christmas. Christmas. Christmas.

Who knew it was a dirty word? It is right up there with the f-word ... or didn't you know? And, we all know another dirty word that seems to be associated with the dirty word Christmas has become, don't we? Or don't you? Let's see if you can guess ...

Can't figure it out? Hmmm. Let me help you.

L.I.B.E.R.A.L.

And, to all the "Liberals" out there that support initiatives by other "Liberals" and organizations like the ACLU ... who have nothing better to do than be offended by the word Christmas, Christmas trees, Christmas carols, nativity scenes, and so forth ... get out of my Party.

Seriously, go start another political party and get out of the Democratic Party. You give us a bad name. I don't like you. You offend me. And, since you think that your rights supercede my rights, that what you find offensive is more important than what the majority finds offensive, you can kiss my butt. I will bare it for you. How is that for offensive?

And, you wonder why so many Democrats vote Republican. You wonder how the Christian Right can hijack a whole Party and 80% of Evangelicals. If your still wondering ... I will tell you. It is because of you. It is because you have nothing better to do than gripe about a holiday. You think that because the Constitution gives us the freedom of religion that means you have the right to remove religion altogether since you have none.

You are also hypocrites because you say that it is Christians who are intolerant. Well, guess what? Look in the mirror. I am tolerant. I am a Christian. I have no problem with you not celebrating Christmas. I have no problem with you not believing in God. I have no problem with Jewish people celebrating Hanukkah, African-Americans celebrating Kwanzaa, or Pagans celebrating Yule. You don't seem to be able to say the same.

You make me sick and I want you to go away. Really.

Bible Question

| 8 Comments | No TrackBacks

I get this question a lot ...

"What version of the Bible do you use? Is there a particular translation that you like the best?"

Hmmm. I don't really know why other people are so interested in what translation of the Bible I use, but I don't mind answering the question. I will say that you should really read up on the many translations and decide which one is best in your own mind. That is what I did and I have been quite happy with my choice ever since.

But, to answer the question ...

The hard copy translation I use is the King James Version. It has it's critics, but it is the version I like the best. I don't find it hard to read, as many people seem to, and for those that do there is the Modern King James Version which is quite good as well. I have copies of them both. And, I especially like the King James Red Letter version.

Now, I will also say that since I like to study the Bible, I have quite a few translations handy to me. I also use the American Standard Version, English Standard Version, Literal Translation of the Holy Bible, Messianic Renewed Covenant, The Message, World English Bible, and Young's Literal Translation. I like to compare them with the King James Version.

I have the Mormon's King James Version of the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I will be receiving a New World Translation here shortly as well.

I particulary love a program I use called e-Sword. You should really check it out, as it is truly exceptional and it is free. Not only can you download various translations of the Bible, but you also download maps, dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference notes, commentaries, daily devotionals, and much more. You can also quickly compare various translations of the Bible, take your own study notes, and analyze scripture. It is truly an amazing program and I highly recommend it.

Bad Eyes

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Well, have you been wondering why you don't see me as much online or commenting on blogs? I know some of you have because you have been writing me, asking me where I am hiding. I am not hiding. And, no ... I am not so upset by the elections that I don't want to blog about politics anymore ... or any other nonsense.

The truth is ... I broke my reading glasses. If I sit online for more than thirty minutes, I get a raging headache and get sleepy. I can't read anything for more than a few minutes right now. Not a newspaper, not a website, not a book, not even my Bible.

I have an eye appointment this week, as my doctor thinks it is time to recheck my eyes to see if I need a new prescription. Hopefully, before the end of the week, I will have new glasses. Then, you will see much more commenting and posting from me. In the meantime, I have to keep it limited.

It sucks. It really sucks.

"Big Drama"

| 5 Comments | No TrackBacks

My mothering instincts kicked in big time tonight. Our oldest daughter was on the phone talking to one of her friends and I realized she was way over her call time limit. I walked in the kitchen to pick up the other phone, to tell her that her time was up ... when I realized that my middle child was on the phone listening to her. She told me that "big drama" was going on and that our oldest said she could listen.

Instead, I listened.

My oldest child's friends Jo and Brit were on the phone, as well as another girl named Cynthia. Cynthia and my daughter were in a heated argument over her's boyfriend, Bubba. It seems that Bubba has been "cheating" on my daughter with Cynthia and Jo and Brit decided to get them all on the phone so they could enjoy the drama.

I called my baby off the phone and talked to her again about her friend Jo (who is Bubba's sister) reminding her that this is the second time this has happened, why I did not want her "going with" Bubba this time, and that Jo will never be her friend. Jo is one of those girls that desires nothing more in life than starting stuff, causing misery, getting "big drama" started, and fighting. She is extremely disrespectful to adults and one of those kids that roams the streets at all hours of the night because her mother does not care about what she is doing and is too busy out chasing men herself.

I had my daughter call back to tell Bubba that she wants nothing more to do with him and then I forbade her to speak to him unless it is to tell him to get away from her. Before we could finish our conversation, they called back but this time they wanted to speak to my middle child. I told them she could not talk.

As I was explaining to LM what was going on, our nephew R called. I asked him why he was calling, as I know he hangs with the same crowd of kids and enjoys nothing more than torturing our oldest daughter. He explained he was calling for someone else and just wanted to ask her a question for them. I told him to tell whoever that "someone" was to not call here anymore and for him not to call back for anyone else again.

Days Of Our Lives ... 90210 style. Feh.

My Baby Loves Me!

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Last night, my wonderful husband treated me to dinner at my favorite Chinese restaurant. It definitely lifted my spirits too. We decided to walk home and enjoyed a stroll through town in the cool air.

Me: Do you love me?
LM: Yes, I love you.
Me: How much?
LM: More than there is night in the sky.
Me: That's a lot of love.
LM: Sure is. How much you love me?
Me: I love you more than there is rays of sunlight.
LM: Not too shabby. I love you more than all the needles on two thousand pine trees.
Me: Well, I love you more than there are leaves on all the trees.
LM: Oh yeah? Well, I love you more than Bush loves oil.
Me: *pauses* That's a whole lot of love, baby.
LM: Ain't it?
Me: Yeah ... you got me beat. For sure.
LM: What can I say? I'm good like that.

Some of you know this about me ... some of you don't. I love Gospel music. I sing it around the house all the time. It doesn't matter if it is Shirley Caesar or Mahalia Jackson ... Kirk Franklin or Mary Mary. I even sing the oldies by the HeeHaw Gospel Quartet, Jim Nabors, Christy Lane, and Elvis Presley. Contemporary gospel is my favorite but the oldies do it for me as well. It doesn't matter if it is Rock Gospel, Country Gospel, Hip-Hop or R&B Gospel. I love Gospel ... what can I say? :)

So listen and enjoy! :P
