Getting It Ready

| No Comments | 1 TrackBack

Well, I got the guys out to the camp site yesterday with few problems. The main one was that they forgot the polish sausages and hot dogs, but I was able to remedy that. I picked them up some potatoes, a watch that one forgot, a metal pole that another requested, the cups they forgot as well, and the meat ... and headed back out to them in the afternoon.

They had told me not to sweat it, as all that stuff could wait until today, but something told me that I needed to get out there and check on them. I was glad I did. When I arrived, they were cooking up some chili and onions on the fire in a large black camp pot ... and within minutes the pot fell over as a log slid out from beneath it. Their supper ended up all over the dirt! LOL

After I get the kids off to Sis' this afternoon, I will be heading back to the camp site until Sunday. The fellas have asked for more chili, onion, and some cigarellos. So, I will be bearing gifts ... including some more chips, a rack of ribs, and a grill rack since they don't seem to be able to keep their food on a fire! :)

A Little Adventure

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Well, I have been gone most of the weekend ... as some of you might have guessed since I haven't blogged anything in a few days. I spent the weekend on a little adventure ...

It started with driving down dirt roads that one could barely get a small car through in some places ... dealing with mud puddles that were about the length of the same car as well. We then pitched two tents about a car length and a half from the edge of the lake. Then it was time to build a fire ... with a combination of wet and dry wood ... and some gasoline. One must do what one must do when one decides to camp right after a rain storm. :)

We roasted polish sausages over the fire and we drank a little beer. We put out the poles we were using for catfish, so that they could sit in the water all night. We sat around the campfire, talked, drank, ate, and relaxed. When the rain came again, we covered the camping supplies with a tarp and piled into the tents.

My Daddy

The trip this past Sunday was really good in some ways and very painful in others. Being at Daddy's grave just really brought back the reality of his not being here anymore and that was hard for me. I took him some pretty flowers, ones I believe he would have liked, and knelt there for awhile talking to him. It was the first time I had been there since the day of his funeral. It was the first time I had been home to Providence since that day too.

It was hard. Looking at his grave, feeling the coolness of his headstone, and reading the words inscribed on it ... was hard to handle. I love my Daddy so much. I was his little girl, his princess ... when I was a child. I was the one he took with him most every place he went ... standing beside him in the truck ... later sitting there on that seat once I was older.

After The Pain

I don't know exactly what it is about this song that I love so much, but I bet I have listened to it over fifty times today alone. It just touches me ... and when you combine that with the way Betty Wright sings it ... talks it ... it just fills me. This is a song that has me singing, groovin', and dancin' around my house. I just feel it to the bone, if you know what I mean.

I love me some Betty Wright! Her music is so real ... and that is the best way I can explain it. She tells it how it is ... she tells it as she feels it. And, I mean "feels" it. You really just have to listen to some of her stuff to understand.

3 Questions

| 7 Comments | 4 TrackBacks

Well, Donna, gave me something to take my minds off things, so I am posting after all ...

I want everyone who reads this to ask me 3 questions, no more no less. Ask me anything you want. Then I want you to go to your journal, copy and paste this allowing your friends (including myself) to ask you anything. (Do a trackback ping thing so I know you copied it.)

I'll post answers, as they are asked, here.

This Weekend

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

I know I am not going to be posting much this weekend, and probably won't until tomorrow night ... if I even do then. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of my Daddy's death and I am trying to keep myself busy ... as it is still just too hard for me.

Yesterday, I had a cookout and had a bunch of friends over for BBQ, pasta salad, chips, and baked beans. We had a good time and it took my mind off Daddy for a bit ... even if I was doing the kind of thing he loved. He loved a good BBQ and get-together.

Back ... I Think

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Well, it looks like I am back ... but I am not 100% sure. I know some of you have been able to see my site, but I haven't. My host did server upgrades and such ... and this is the first time I have seen my site since Monday ... other than for five minutes the night before last.

I can see Shylah's and Sis's sites again too ... so hopefully this means that DNS propagation has fully occurred and I won't lose this post sometime today.

I did lose one post and a couple of comments during all this, so please do not think that I deleted anyone ... as I haven't. I will see what I can do to get those put back in as well. I also had mail server issues, so if you emailed me and I haven't mailed you back ... it is because I never saw the email.

Happy Easter

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

Today was a good day. :) Though, I am ten kinds of whooped over here! I only got about five hours of sleep last night and got busy as soon as I was up this morning. And, I jumped right into it too with another trip to Wal-Mart for polish sausage and bratwurst to go with the ribs I bought late last night. I decided to cook eight more potatoes for the potato salad and I had to mop the floor as well, as I did not get to that.

We had a feast here! Grilled cheeseburgers, hotdogs, polish sausage, bratwurst, and hot dogs ... BBQ ribs, burgers, polish sausage, bratwurst, and hot dogs; potato salad made with salad dressing, potato salad made with mayo, baked beans, chips, deviled eggs, soda, Boston cake w/strawberries, super Easter cookies, and chess pie.

Getting Ready For Easter

| 4 Comments | 1 TrackBack

Tomorrow, we are having a cookout here at the Ole Rogue Homestead and I am almost ready. I have two Boston cakes w/strawberries & whipped cream, two extra large sugar cookies w/Easter decorations, the charcoal, the charcoal lighter, the hamburger, the buns, the foam plates, the condiments, the beer & brandy, and the potato salad is in the making. And, the house is clean except for the mopping which will be done tonight, after I make four chess pies.

The kids Easter baskets are ready and forty-two Easter eggs are ready for the hunt!

Kim and her family are bringing the hot dogs, buns, baked beans, the paper napkins, and two dozen Easter eggs. Sis and her family are bringing three dozen deviled eggs, the chips, drinks, cups, and even more Easter eggs.

We are going to have one fine time around here, that is for sure! :)

Dream Of Daddy

| 7 Comments | 1 TrackBack

My daddy died on April 18, 2003. It has been almost a year since his death and I have never fully recovered from it. And, ever since he died, I have prayed for a dream of him.

You see, I read a book about dreams and it talked about the author's belief that dreams of loved ones passed on can be visits from them. Of course, dreams of someone gone that are not really about them, a memory replayed from the past, and such are not visits. But, the author said that when you dream of that loved one and you are talking to them, experiencing something new with them, and things to that extent ... that it is a visit from them.

Now, some may think that is bull, but I happen to think it is possible. I believe God could allow us those moments with those we love who are no longer with us. And, as I said, I have prayed for such a dream. Almost a year later, I finally got it.

In my dream, I was in my house on Hale Street. I was talking to my Daddy on the phone and I was amazed at how excited he was. He was talking fast to me, the way I tend to do when I am excited ... and the way he could not stand for me to do as he said that he could not understand a word I was saying ... and he was talking about everything to me.

Christine

Shylah got to talking about Stephen King's Christine and now I am hooked on reading the book again. I had forgotten just how good it is!!!

She also commented on how the movie does not do the book justice, but you know ... I have never seen a movie based on any of his books that does.

But, just to be nosey ... what books have you read of Stephen King? How about movies you have seen?

Friendship Is ...

When your friends support you and defend you, even when they disagree with you. :)

I am lucky to have a few friends like that, online and off. Donna and Shylah are prime examples.

Thanks, you two. Y'all are my gurls!

Dressing & Terrorism

"Mom, are you a terrorist?" My oldest daughter asks me with a most serious look on her face.

"Why?" I ask puzzled.

"Because your dressing is da bomb!" She hollers.

LOL That child is too funny.

Chillin' With Family

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

This weekend turned out pretty good. I had my nephews ... A, Tan, & C ... and my niece, Bri ... for the weekend. They were pretty darn good and I think we didn't do too bad considering this was the first weekend that A has spent since he was diagnosed as a diabetic.

Yesterday, we walked to "The Bottom" and went to the park. We spent a few hours playing and then my two youngest daughters and my nephew Tan decided to help clean up the park a bit. My middle child and I walked a block up to my buddy T's house to borrow a broom. Later, Goo ... from a bit further up the street ... lent me gloves for picking up any glass we found. We didn't do too bad of a job and it helped teach the kids that cleaning up the places we enjoy is a part of our civic duty to our community.

I got really tickled at My oldest daugher while we were there. We decided to walk to the corner store for some sodas and I was getting quite a bit of attention. A few guys did the usual, "hey baby," and a few more honked their horns. her response? "Ewww ... you're my mom!" I rolled!

My, My, My

Yeah

So good
My, my, my, my
You look so sweet
Listen

Put on your red dress
and slip on your high heels
And some of that sweet perfume,
it sure smells good on you
Slide on your lipstick,
and let all your hair down
Cause baby, when you get through
I'm gonna show off you

Tonight will be a special night
No matter where we go
And I'm so proud to be with you
I just want to let you know

You got my sayin'
my, my, my, my, my, my
You sure look good tonight
And you're so damn fine
I wanna say
my, my, my, my, my, my (Uh-huh)
You sure look good tonight
(Tonight, after all this time)

Slip on your nightgown,
step in our bedroom
First I wanna take some time,
I just wanna look at you
Girl, you are so fine,
I can?t believe my eyes
And all that I wanna do,
I wanna make love to you, oh

Tonight will be a special night
A minute more to come
And I'm so proud to be with you
So proud to share your love

My, my, my, my, my, my
You sure look good tonight

I wanna say
my, my, my, my, my, my, my,
my, my, my, my, my, my
Make love all night long,
make love till the break of dawn
Come on, come on
Sweet little thing, yes, you do

Yes, you do, do
Yes, you do,
Yes, you do, do, do, do, do
Yes, you do, do
Yes, you do, yes, you do
And I'm so proud to be with you
So proud to share you're love

You got my singin'
my, my, my, my, my, my
You sure look good tonight
I wanna love you,
I want to love you in every, every way
Let me, let me show you how sweet it's gonna be
I wanna show you things that you never
You never, ever, ever seen before

Put your nightgown on
Let your hair hang low
Step into our room
I'm in the mood to love you all night long

You got me sayin'
my, my, my, my, my, my, my
My, my, my, my, my, my, my
My, my, my, my, my, my,
m-m-m-my, my, my, my, my

My, my, my, my, my, my
See, all you got to do, all you gotta do
Is say that you'll be mine,
all mine, all mine, all mine, all mine
You'll be all mine tonight, baby
Let me, let me show you how sweet it's gonna, whoa

My, my, my, my, my, my
You sure look good tonight
My, my, my, my, my, my
You sure look good tonight

My, my, my, my, my, my
You sure look good tonight
My, my, my, my, my, my

Great Book

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I finally was able to pick up a copy of Glorious Appearing!!! For those that are not familiar, it is book 12 of the Left Behind series and I have been waiting since August of last year for it to come out! It came out Tuesday, but I just made it out to buy it today.

If you have not read any of these books, I highly recommend them. They are awesome! They are also the kind of book you just cannot seem to put down. The characters draw you right in, as well as the story line. Which, by the way, is about the people who are left behind after Jesus raptures the church. It starts with The Rapture, follows the Tribulation and Great Tribulation, Armageddon, and then the Coming of Christ.

Even if you are not a Christian, the books are a great read. And, while I relax, I plan on reading some more of the latest book! :)
